What to Expect

The day class meets Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm for two weeks. A certified nursing assistant helps patients with activities of daily living, personal and environmental hygiene, and other healthcare needs under the supervision of a Nurse.

Training covers a wide set of skills and knowledge that will be learned through lecture and hands on training including things like:

Basic Nursing Skills: Vital signs, Safety, infection control, communication skills, observing and reporting.

Personal Care Skills: Bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding techniques, movement and positioning.

Mental Health Needs: Proper awareness and response to patients behavioral and mental health needs.

Care of Cognitively Impaired: Techniques and methods for communicating, understanding, and appropriately responding to issues related to impaired patients, such as those with Alzheimer's.

Basic Restorative Services: Training patients in self care, using assistive devices, maintaining range of motion, proper turning and positioning in bed
